App wouldn't load past the initial cubis games screen. Advised that it was designed for older version of Android and may need to be updated but no updates are available. Uninstalled for a full refund. Disappointed as I'm a big fan of Dave Morris books and was looking forward to this.
Loved the game, but now it gets stuck on the "Cubus Games" screen whenever I try to play it again.
This is my favorite book ever since I was a kid and as soon as I got an android device and knew about this, I immediately bought it. Any chance that it would be available on iStore though? The writing and the new interface is great. The music is atmospheric and sets the mood right. The artwork is a bit too cutesey for the gamebook as opposed to the gritty illustrations in the paperback but still great. One thing that really kinda diappointed me though. There are a lot of unexpected crashes. Especially in the underworld options. I kinda have an idea on the story but with the game crashing every now and then, it is frustrating. Reported some of it already. The game is topnotch, I am thankful you guys made it masterfully....well except for the frequent crashing. But yeah, I love the books by Dave Morris so much and you guys did justice making a game out of it. Kudos! PS: It wont hurt if you guys would adapt another VR gamebook app. Hehe
I did not go very far in this game yet before becoming too annoyed to continue and frankly I don't know if I will try again later or not. On the positive side, the story and writing are alright so far and I really like the art. Also, checkpoints, which is a very good (though unfortunately rare) thing in this sort of games. However, the inventory system is very irritating. I was not even done with the prologue before I was out of inventory space, six items being the maximum ? I started with two slots tken, one for currency and one for the letter, them bought some items at the market and already had to reload and only buy the waterskin and rope since there was no space left for the health restoring cake and the magic bead I was given just after. I hope there aren't any other important items, because I really don't know what to throw away : currency ? letter to prove who I am to the woman who will make my travel arrangements ? waterskin which probably will help not dying of thirst ? rope which is always always useful ? magic cakes to keep from dying ? magic bead to keep from dying should I cross the underworld ? Or not... Just after finishing the prologue someone already wants me to buy a rain bracelet. Sorry, but wasting time deciding which items to keep is not my idea of fun. And don't talk to me about realism when I have to throw a bead away to make space for a rope, or vice-versa.
The setting is fun in a sea of fantasy games set in medieval england but a lot of puzzles and so forth are very obtuse. Unless you like dealing with a lot of dead ends and using a walkhrouh, it's going to get frustarting. Trial and error game play is fine for some. The rock paper scissors combat leaves a lot to be desired. Also, I wish you could place book markers so you don't have to replay long segments.
What I love about Necklace of Skulls is the art and how vibrant it is. The narrative also paints the world in a way that it feels like you're actually there, and it's exciting to see where your choices lead you, and in hindsight think about all the other options you didn't consider. That said, I thought the storage limit was a bit stingy, especially with the amount of items you find in the way. Also, the game kept on crashing at certain points which just dampened the experience as a whole. Needs fixing!
Choosing certain options cause the game to crash. I'm less than an hour in and I've already encountered this several times on my GS5. Frustrating because the game is very interesting.
Terrific artwork. Loading times leave something to be desired tho. Story is a bit hard but i like a good challenge.
My kids & I R all big fans of interactive fiction, I've loved the genre since I was a kid in the 70s (yeah, I'm OLD) so I approach them with not a little nostalgia. There are many good examples of 'choose your own adventure' available 4 Android but Cubus' entries R very unique in that they create their own atmosphere 2 a higher degree than most. Definitely worth the $.
One of a kind, but hard as hell. Tried many times and have yet to win. Still fun to try, though!
